A three piece ball valve is made of two end caps and a centre body joined by long body bolts. Once the end caps are welded or screwed into the pipe, the centre body can be swung out by loosening the bolts – giving full access to the ball, seats and seals without cutting the pipeline.
As a three piece ball valve manufacturer in India, we produce 3-PC valves in stainless and carbon steel, including forged 3-PC designs for higher pressures.
Why three-piece construction matters
- In-line maintenance – replace seats and seals in minutes, keep the welded ends in place.
- Weld-friendly – remove the centre body before welding to protect soft seats from heat.
- Cleanability – easy access for inspection and cleaning in pharma and food plants.
- Automation-ready – most designs include a direct-mount pad for actuators.
Choosing end connections
Socket weld and butt weld ends are preferred for permanent, leak-free joints in process lines. Screwed ends suit utilities and smaller sizes. Flanged three-piece valves combine bolt-in installation with in-line serviceability.
Maintenance procedure in brief
- Depressurise and drain the line; cycle the valve to release trapped pressure.
- Loosen all body bolts and remove all but one.
- Swing out the centre body, replace seats and body seals.
- Swing back, tighten bolts evenly and test.

Frequently asked questions
What is a three piece ball valve?
A ball valve with a body made of three separate sections – two end caps and a centre body. The centre body can be removed for maintenance without disturbing the pipeline.
Can three piece ball valves withstand high temperatures?
Yes, depending on body and seat material. Stainless steel valves with high-temperature seats such as PEEK or graphite suit demanding applications.
What fluids can three piece ball valves handle?
Liquids, gases, steam and many corrosive chemicals, provided the body and seat materials are selected for the media.
What are the benefits of three piece ball valves?
Excellent sealing, long service life and easy maintenance. Their modular design reduces downtime and maintenance costs.
