About ball valves
What is a ball valve?
A quarter-turn valve with a bored ball that rotates 90° to open or close flow. It offers fast operation and tight shut-off. See types of ball valves.
Can a ball valve be used for throttling?
Standard ball valves are designed for on/off service. Holding them partly open erodes the seats. For control duty, use a characterised ball with a modulating actuator, or a control valve.
What is the difference between full bore and reduced bore?
A full bore valve's bore equals the pipe ID; a reduced bore valve's bore is smaller. Read more.
Floating or trunnion – which do I need?
Floating for small and medium sizes; trunnion mounted for large sizes and high pressures. Read more.
